Wall Mount Hood Size Guide

The hood width should match your cooktop. Common sizes are 30", 36", 42", and 48". A wider hood will provide better coverage.
Hood Height (B)
Ceiling Height(C)-RangeHeight(D)-33"(E)= Hood Height
(The distance from the cooktop to the bottom of the hood should be 30"-36" above the cooktop for optimal performance.)
Hood Depth (F)
The hood depth is the measurement from front to back of the hood. Typical depths are 22"-24", depending on your kitchen layout. -
Island Mount Hood Size Guide
Hood Width (A)
For island-mounted range hoods, the hood width should be 3"-6" wider than your cooking area.
Hood Height (B)
Ceiling Height(C)-RangeHeight(D)-33"(E)= Hood Height
(The distance from the cooktop to the bottom of the hood should be 30"-36" above the cooktop for optimal performance.)
Hood Depth (F)
For island range hoods, typical depths range from 26"-27".
Ventilation Options
-
Internal Motor Ventilation
An internal ventilation system is the most common and convenient option for range hoods. This system features a built-in motor that is located inside the hood itself, allowing it to exhaust smoke, steam, and odors directly outside.
How it works: The internal motor draws air from the kitchen and pushes it through a duct system to the exterior of the house.
-
Remote Ventilation
A remote ventilation system uses a motor that is installed away from the hood, usually in an attic or ductwork, to vent air outside.
How it works: The motor is located away from the range hood, and ductwork runs from the motor to the hood. This setup keeps the noisy motor away from the kitchen, reducing sound while cooking.
-
Ductless Ventilation
A ductless ventilation system is perfect for kitchens where it’s not possible to install a duct system. This system uses charcoal filters to trap smoke, grease, and odors, then recirculates the clean air back into the kitchen.
How it works: The ductless range hood uses a filtration system to purify the air and recirculate it back into the kitchen.
